The Mediterranean: My Love Affair with the Sea and Lands
By Sharon Wright Cottrell
What is your greatest love affair? The one that was highest on my list is the islands and land around the Mediterranean Sea. This series of images will demonstrate how easy it was to fall in love with this wonderful place. Love affairs may come and go but this one will stay with me forever.
In the Summer of 2017 I discovered a comprehensive 85-day cruise to the Mediterranean on the mid-size Oceania Sirena ship leaving from Miami on June 23, 2018 and returning to Miami on September 16, 2018. The itinerary had 64 port days in 50 unique ports and 22 sea days. Oceania offered several excursions in every port. We took 51 ship planned and 10 self-planned excursions in all except 2 ports. Every day was filled with an exciting place to go.
We visited 13 countries including Albania, Bahamas, Croatia, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Palestine (West Bank), Portugal, and Spain and 20 islands including Lanzarote, Tenerife, Sicily, Sardinia, Cypress, Corsica, Crete, Madeira, Ibiza, Mallorca, Minorca, Capri, Cephalonia, Zakynthos, Mykonos, Santorini, Patmos, Rhodes, Bermuda, and Monemvasia. This was truly a trip of a lifetime. I am fascinated with the scenery, history, culture, well preserved architecture, the hilltop villages, the whitewashed buildings, food, and people of the Mediterranean Sea and Lands. What better way to spend a summer.
